Dr Augusto Zimmermann

The St Thomas More Society is very pleased to invite you to a talk to be delivered by Dr Augusto Zimmerman on the topic: “Under God and the Law”: Christian Roots of the Common Law.

Dr Zimmermann is Senior Lecturer, Director of Postgraduate Studies and former Associate Dean (Research) at the School of Law at Murdoch University. Dr Zimmermann is a Commissioner with the Law Reform Commission of Western Australia, President of the Western Australian Legal Theory Association, Vice-President of the Australian Society of Legal Philosophy and editor of the Western Australian Jurist law journal. Dr Zimmermann was awarded the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Research (2012), the Law Dean’s Research Award (2010 and 2011) and the Murdoch Student Law Society Law Lecturer of the Year Award (2013). A prolific writer, he is on the editorial board of numerous international law journals and he is the author of numerous academic books and articles. His publications in this topic area include 'Christian Foundations of the Rule of law in the West: A Legacy of Liberty and Resistance against Tyranny' (2005) 19 (2) Technical Journal 67, 'The Christian Roots of the Rule of Law in the West' (2007) 7 (1) Universitas Pelita Harapan Law Review, ‘A Law Above the Law: Christian Roots of the English Common Law’ (2013) 1 Glocal Conversations 85-98 and ‘Under God and the Law: Natural-Law Foundations of the English Common Law’ (2013) 13 (1) UPH Law Review 165-184.
